Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – Definitive Edition: A huge success despite launch problems; Take Two wants to stick to business model

Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – Final Edition was a saga of bugs when it first launched and was a disappointment of expectations, especially in terms of technology. The game’s crashes were a nuisance and a blinding rain effect that, making challenging to play in certain moments for a few issues. The community was also furious, as Rockstar Games removed the originals from all stores just before the release date and began taking actions against modders. The company later apologized and pledged to release the original versions once more.

These issues don’t appear to have impacted sales. At the recent meeting with investors, Strauss Zelnick, CEO of the parent Take-Two Interactive, spoke of the company’s success. Take-Two Interactive even said of Trilogy surpassing all commercial sales expectations, which accounted for a large amount of revenue in the fourth quarter. In a subsequent meeting, Zelnick responded to concerns regarding the quality control problems that occurred in GTA Trilogy could be seen as a possibility in future games, including the GTA 6, which is planned for release. NextGen GTA 5 and the newly confirmed GTA 5 and the freshly confirmed GTA 6: “We are committed to the highest quality and strive to give you the most enjoyable experience we can. Rarely do we not meet expectations in doing this, and I’m sure Trilogy was a good instance of this. The release came with some issues that we’ve been able to resolve; however, there’s always going to be improvements.”

Additionally, the CEO stated to the press that Take-Two would not alter its strategy despite the disastrous debut of GTA The Trilogy. Also, they will continue to outsource inevitable remakes and ports to other studios. For instance, Grove Street Games was responsible for the development of Trilogy. However, they previously developed mobile ports. “We’ve been through several quality problems within this company [Take-Two ed. However, they’ve always been isolated incidents which we’d like to keep the same. We will, however, not alter our business model.”

It is expected that the mobile version of Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy The Final Edition is set to be released on smartphones in the first half of 2022.
